The St. Paul Pastoral Council assesses the needs of the Parish and its members and unifies the faith community, drawing forth the gifts and talents of the parishioners.
The Council discerns changes and focuses efforts needed to make the Parish more faithful to the call of God. The Parish Council also establishes goals and priorities to promote the common good of the Parish and makes recommendations to the Pastor on major matters concerning the Parish.

The Pastoral Council is a consultative body (Canon 536, par. 2), which assists the Pastor in his leadership role as shepherd of the Parish. The Pastoral Council represents the interests and needs of the entire Parish community.
The Pastoral Council:
Serves as an instrument for sharing the Mission of Jesus, proclaiming His Word, building His community, celebrating His liturgy and serving His people.
Assesses the needs of the Parish and its members
Unifies the faith community, drawing forth the gifts and talents of the parishioners.
Establishes and serves as a medium of communication between pastoral staff and laity in the spiritual and material needs of the parish community.
Discerns changes and focuses efforts needed to make the Parish more faithful to the call of God.
Establishes goals and priorities to promote the common good of the Parish.
Collaborates with and makes recommendations to the Pastor in the development of spiritual and material matters in the parish.
Ex-officio members are the Pastor, Parochial Vicars, Permanent Deacon(s) assigned to the Parish, at least one Parish Trustee, immediate past Chair of the Council for one year, and other Staff members as deemed necessary by the Pastor and/or Executive Committee. In addition, twelve other parishioners serve on the Council. These members serve a three year term and may serve a second term.
Who can be on the Pastoral Council? The Council is open to all registered and practicing members of the Parish, age sixteen or older. A member must have a desire to serve the Parish Family, a willingness to work with the Pastor, and the ability to work in a group process through prayer, planning, and consensus. Members must also desire to foster the teachings of the Church and have a commitment to attend Council and sub-committee meetings.
St. Paul Pastoral Council Nomination and Selection Process - 2024
September 7 & 8 – The Pastoral Council Nominating Committee will be soliciting nominees at all Masses. The nominating Form, on the back side of this sheet, allows you to nominate yourself or someone you feel would be a worthy candidate.
September 23 – Solicitation for nominees will be complete and the nominating Committee will assemble the list of qualified nominees.
October 1 & 6 – Informational sessions will be hosted by the Nominating Committee. All qualified nominees will be contacted for their preference of dates. The purpose of these sessions is to provide information regarding Council operations and provide an opportunity for questions. This will also be an opportunity for further discernment for the Nominees.
October 21 – Final list of Nominees will be presented to the Pastoral Council for its approval of new members.
November 18 – New Council is seated and officers are selected.
